MIRA Collects MVR 2.69 Billion in September 2026

11 Oct 2026

MIRA collected a total of MVR 2.69 billion in revenue during September 2026. This amount was 12.7% higher than the projected revenue for the month. Although revenue was 10.7% lower than that collected during the same period in 2025, it was 8.9% higher when compared to the cumulative revenue collected up to the end of September 2025.

The main reasons revenue exceeded forecasts for September 2026 were primarily driven by higher collections in Tourism Sector GST, General Sector GST, Tourism Land Rent, and Corporate Income Tax. Tourist arrivals in August 2026 rose by 18.0% compared to projected arrivals, boosting collections of Tourism Sector GST. Similarly, timely payments received for Tourism Land Rent due in September also contributed to the increase. 15.8% of the revenue collected in September 2026 came from payments relating to previous deadlines, while 17.4% was collected through efforts to recover outstanding dues.

The decrease in revenue compared to September 2025 was mainly due to lower collections of Lease Period Extension Fee and General Sector GST during September 2026. Lease Period Extension Fee, which was a one-off payment, collected during September 2025 was higher when compared with the collection received in September 2026. The notable decline in total collections in September 2026 compared to the corresponding period in 2025 was largely due to lower General Sector GST dues collections.

As part of MIRA’s efforts to recover outstanding payments, a total of MVR 623 million was collected during September 2026. This included MVR 395 million through notices issued to taxpayers, MVR 87 million through dues clearance processes, and MVR 123 million through installment agreements. In addition, MVR 10 million was collected through reminder phone calls and MVR 8 million was recovered through bank account freezing policy.

GST remained the largest source of revenue, accounting for 46.8% of total collections, equivalent to MVR 1.3 billion. Revenue from Tourism Land Rent was the second-largest contributor, accounting for 15.8% or MVR 424 million. Other major revenue sources included Income Tax at MVR 213 million (7.9%), Green Tax at MVR 202 million (7.5%), Airport Development Fee at MVR 177 million (6.6%), and Departure Tax at MVR 173 million (6.4%).

The total revenue collected in September 2026 also included USD 126.81 million.
